1. Who can join the community?

Anyone who enjoys writing fanfiction can join! All levels of writing are welcomed.

2. Why is the community called 100 prompts?

100 prompts is modeled after many of the old prompting communities on Livejournal. Hopefully as an active member you will write 100 prompts or more!

3. Do I have to choose a prompt table?

The answer is no, but with a few caveats. If prompt tables aren't your thing, you can do the daily prompt challenges and the freak Friday challenge. The prompt tables are for those who would like to challenge themselves to completing one.

4. What if I just like the table prompts, but I don't want to complete the entire thing?

Hmmmm where is the fun in that?

5. Can we use the prompt table across multiple fandoms?

Yes!

6. Can I prompt for original characters?

Yes! Original characters and universes are welcome!

7. Can more than one person have the same fandom/pairing/ship?

Yes! There is no restriction to your creativity.

b. How exactly does claiming work?

You claim one table to complete the prompt table challenge. You can use the prompt table to dedicate to one fandom/pairing or multiple fandoms/pairings. Providing us with the fandoms you intend to use for the table helps for your record keeping and it helps us to keep the fandom tags up to date.

8. What happens when you finish a prompt table?

You get a sweet completion badge.

9. Are taboo genres okay?

Yes. However, please use proper warnings. Some people might not enjoy that genre.

10. Is smut okay?

Yep. Just use proper warnings and cut tags.

11. What if I don't see my fandom tag?

If you don't see your fandom listed in the tags, you are free to add it. However, please ensure you do not duplicate a tag. So, check and then double check.

12. I'm new to DW. How does all of this work?

If you don't see your specific question, ask a mod. We are happy to help.

Hi there!

The writers choice allows you to be as creative as you want! You can use prompts from the daily prompt challenges (that should be on the way soon), song lyrics, and/or your own inspiration.

That brings up another question - can the daily prompts be used any time or do we have to write and post on the day they're posted?

I'm already juggling far too many weekly and monthly challenges, but I keep signing up for more. Glutton for punishment, I am.

While we would like everyone to do the challenges on the day they are posted, we understand that life happens. If you miss the challenge for the day, you can post your response at a later time with the corresponding prompt tag.

Is there a minimum wordcount by chance?

Also, what is a "taboo genre"? That's a rather vague phrase.

No minimum word count. An example of taboo genre is incest. That's not everyone's jam.

For posting responses to daily prompts, should we post them in the comments, or post them in the main journal, or post them on our journals and link them...? I'm sorry I feel like this is an obvious question but I wanna make sure I'm doing things right!

Hi, I'm new to this site (from tumblr), and this community looks like a lot of fun, I just wanted to ask, when filling a table, do all the words have to be in the same fic, or is it one word per fic?

You can use the table to cover one fic and/or one fandom. You can also use it to write one-shots for multiple fandoms.

I'm a little confused about the following rules:

7.Cross post your fic from your page to the community. (All post must be posted to the community)

I tend to dedicate whole "communities" to projects I'm doing, and I would normally do the same here. Plus, I tend to keep them private until I'm done. But does this mean I have to have the whole thing--table and individual projects--in my main account and in public?

Hi there!

No, it just means to post the code on your page. That's more to help you keep track of the prompts you have completed for this challenge that way you don't have to keep referring to the table claims post for your prompt words. Cross posting just means to make sure that if you post your fic on your personal journal, you also post it in the community so you can get credit for it. Neither has to be public on your personal page.

If you request one table with say four fandoms, does it then become four of the same table for those four fandoms or is it one table with those four fandoms?

Hi, I'm not quite sure that I understand your question. You are allowed to claim one table at a time. You may dedicate that table to one fandom, one pairing, or use it across multiple fandoms/pairings. Please let us know if you need additional clarification on the table claims :)

hi there! probably should have thought of this before i claimed a table.

i have a seperate journal for writing fic, but my claim is under this username. is it okay to post my table and the fics on the other journal, as long as i post to the community on this account? or should i move the whole claim to my other account.

If I'm planning to do a bunch of shorter prompt fills (think closer to 'drabble'), would it be better to aggregate them into one post, or post them separately?

Also, is there a deadline, and what happens if we want to claim a different table before finishing the first one?

You can do a single post with all your prompts if that makes it easier for you. :)

There is no deadline and we don't do activity checks. You can only claim one table at a time.

Okay, cool. So if I wanted to switch tables, could I do that? I'm guessing that might make things difficult if I've already filled part of one table already.

(Haven't claimed a table yet, not planning to switch in the middle, but wondering just in case.)

Unfortunately not. Once you claim a table it is up to you to complete it. If you decide you no longer want to do that table, you can let your admins know and we will give you a new claim tag for the new table. You'll have to begin from scratch.

I have another question. When posting fills for our tables, do they have to be in chronological order, or can we just start posting any of them as they're completed/as they inspire us (starting at, for example, #6, instead of #1)?

They don't have to be in any particular order. The words on the table serve as inspiration. So, go where your muse takes you :)

I’m sure this is a really stupid question, but where exactly are the prompt tables? I can’t seem to find them.

The claim table link can be found on the community profile page under the prompt table section and there is an additional link under "claims" on the profile page. You can also search the tags under "claims." :)

Hi! I keep seeing this comm pop up on my network and would love to try my hand at one of your awesome tables -- hope it's okay to post a couple of questions here first?

1) I see there's no minimum word count, but I was wondering if there's a maximum? My fic tends to get pretty long -- I'd be linking to AO3 not posting a zillion words directly to the community or anything, but I've seen a few prompt-based communities that like to keep fills relatively short, so I figured it'd be best to check first if I should try to keep within a certain limit?

2) You mentioned in a comment above it's okay to fill a table writing a fic for each prompt or a single fic including all the prompts, so I was wondering if we're able to pick, say, a couple of prompts for one fic? e.g, could we complete a table with a few fics filling one prompt, a few filling two or three, etc? Or is it just all-prompts-in-one-fic or one-fic-per prompt, to keep things simple? No worries either way, of course -- just checking so I know how to plan! ;)

I hope I phrased that okay -- apologies if it makes no sense!

1. There is no min or max word count. Write to your heart's content.

2. You can complete the table using whatever method you choose as long as you incorporate the prompt into the story in some way. :)
