"Hey, is it true that you tried to take Shirley to that haunted house attraction that the local Actors' Guild set up at the fairgrounds," Peter wondered as Davy helped himself to a cup of juice.

"Sure is," Davy nodded.

"What were you thinking, going to a place like that?"

"I just thought I'd test my mettle."

Micky smirked. "I didn't know you had any mettle to test."

"Now, cool it," Mike warned him, clapping Davy on the shoulder. "This fellah's tiny, but he's tough."

Davy puffed himself up proudly. "I'll say I am."

Peter grinned. "So, what happened?"

"Well, it turned out that I'd gotten the address wrong. We wound up in a real haunted house! I mean it," Davy insisted when the others scoffed. "Proper ghosts on the prowl, and everything! Shirley was terrified. I was pretty darned scared, myself, to tell you the truth. All that house lacked was Vincent bloody Price!"

"Wowwie!" Micky leaned in, fascinated. "What did you do, man?"

"What else could I do? I protected her, until we got back out of that place."

"And then," Mike pressed.

Davy sighed. "And then she dumped me for scaring the living daylights out of her."
